NYFW brought in some amazing yet interesting looks and trends for Spring/Summer 2020. We’ve listed a few of our favorites but we did see a lot of same themes, especially the ’80s. Perhaps there is a subtle hint here?
Loose Silhouettes
Hoping you didn’t toss your relaxed jeans and skirts because designers like Brandon Maxwell and Tom Ford brought them back. First thought was every outfit from any 90s sitcom. The use of satin and simplicity in their collections was quite refreshing and nostalgic.
’80’s
The 90’s have been back, but the not so keen 80’s trends are back back. Pastel floral prints, metalic dresses, boxy blazers, and off-the-shoulder mini dresses, literally everything we didn’t think could be reinvented because it was so awkward and only made us think of horrible prom pictures was reinvented. Seriously though, this is so good.
Bubbled Hems
A bit of 80’s inspo here too. Ruffled skirts and full bag type dresses in bold colors and patterns were an element. It’s fun, flirty, and perfect for Spring/Summer 2020.
Undergarments
We all know that Thierry Mugler is the king of corseting, so his work must have inspired several designers because undergarments were all over. The nouveau concept is genius, daring, and risky but also appropriate for 2020 (instead of “bra burning” we’re just going to wear them over our blouses because #mybodymychoice). The corsets and suspenders added depth and even acted as an accessory at times. Who needs a belt?
Diamond Everything
From Christopher John Rogers, to Area, and Christina Cowan, sparkly looks were everywhere. Diamonds along blazers, diamond encrusted mini dresses, iridescent tops, it’s safe to say we felt all of the ethereal vibes.
