A Perspective From a Twelve Year Old

The Tough Reality of Bullying

The word Bullying is a tough word, makes you feel upset, mad, and definitely not loved. Let’s be real, kids my age are sensitive and heartbroken. I, Hamza Godil, student at Lanier Middle School have been bullied since elementary school and it has shaped the way I interact with my community to this day. They used to say “Hamza, why are you Fat?” or “Hey Hamza, I am going to beat up your lunch because you can’t do anything to me.” These are the few cruel words that are just examples of the many things I heard or were said to me.

The Emotional Toll of Bullying

Through my Hardship I have learned that bullies hurt you mentally and put you down. The pain has caused countless insecurities and problems for me. I had a moment in elementary school where I cried every night with my mom and told her how the students had been behaving with me at school. Trust me, my mom went out of her way to solve this problem but nothing changed. I believe that it’s your upbringing at home and how your parents teach you really matters how you treat your peers when you start school.

The Turning Point: Finding a New Beginning

In my life, it came to a point where I told my mom that I will no longer go to this elementary school, so she took me out and put me in a new school where my life changed. I started a new elementary school, and I can’t explain the respect and love I received the day I entered my new class. At first, I was so scared to even walk in because I told my mom I hope it’s not as bad as the old school. I was ready to face challenges but my frown turned into my biggest smile.

A New Chapter: Friendship and Support

On the first day of school, I made some great friends. I got the best teachers and every single person in my class was super nice and helpful.

My Message to Others: Speak Up and Believe in Yourself

In ending, I would like to say that if you are being bullied, don’t be scared to speak up. Tell an adult that is close to you so they can help guide you. Don’t be too scared to speak up and build your own self-confidence. I, Hamza Godil, learned to love myself. I built that confidence to overcome all this, and I walk with my head high and a humble heart towards everyone. I am here for you; I am here to HELP you.
